Bibles for Muslims provide path of healing

Bibles for Muslims in Senegal, West Africa, brought the healing power of Christ to a family and their deathly-ill daughter. In a country where at least 94% of people are Muslim, Christians are trained by the Bible League to disciple Muslims one-on-one with God’s Word, and it is transforming lives for Christ! Idrissa and his family have a moving testimony for the power of the gift that Bibles for Muslims brings to Senegal.

Several years ago, Idrissa and his wife were having many problems. Idrissa was a Muslim, but his wife had given her life to Christ.  This was just one disagreement between them. Over time, Idrissa became easily angered, which turned into violent fights. At least once a week, he beat her.

Closer to death 

One day, their daughter became very ill. As do many Senegal Muslims when a family member is sick, Idrissa insisted that they had to take their daughter to a marabout—the religious leader of his Muslim brotherhood—in Dakar, Senegal’s capital city. He paid the marabout a large sum of money to heal their daughter, but their daughter didn’t get well. In fact, she grew closer to death.

Discouraged, Idrissa and his wife returned home. Then a Senegal Christian man named Pastor Alain and a group of Bible League Christians trained in providing Bibles for Muslims, evangelism, and discipleship came to their village. Since she, too, was a Senegal Christian, Idrissa’s wife asked them to come and pray for their daughter. What happened next was a miracle!  When they prayed and Pastor Alain told their daughter to rise up and walk—she did! She was totally healed.

Idrissa gives a powerful testimony of that day.  “I gave my life to Christ. Ever since then, I’ve had a desire to know much about Jesus and to join my wife in seeking the face of God,” Idrissa says.  Even in the face of anger and opposition, the Bible League trained Christians were committed to providing Bibles for Muslims and as a result, Idrissa experienced radical life change.  “What I have experienced in Jesus Christ in the past 4 years is more than I ever experienced during 40 years as a Muslim.”

Sharing the Word of God

Amazingly, now it is Idrissa who is providing Bibles for Muslims and evangelizing others! “I gather the people in our village together under a fig tree, and I share the Word of God with them. We use the Bible, in our language of Serer, that I received from Bible League.”

By providing Bibles for Muslims through The Bible League, God is moving in miraculous ways, even behind the walls of Islam—even in the hardest places on earth to share the Gospel. Muslims are "people of the book." They respect God's written revelation, and are amazingly responsive to Bible League’s unique approach of discipling Muslims one-on-one and reading the Word of God together in the safety of their own homes. This approach works—and is reaping miraculous results across the Muslim world.

In the end, no government and no army can stop the advance of Islam. But the Word of God can and it will. In a miraculous moment, the Holy Spirit draws people to the Word of God, and then uses it powerfully to transform hearts and radically reshape nations.  The testimony of Christians like Pastor Alain who provide Bibles for Muslims like Idrissa reveals the eternal impact of Christ’s love – even when it is delivered from the hands of a humble servant.
