Bible study cures selfishness
Bible study was never something in which Thandiwe thought he’d be interested. In fact, a few years ago, Thandiwe would have described himself as a very self-centered person. “I was arrogant and always looking to undermine others,” he says. “I was the center of the universe and I worked very hard to ensure that I was better than anyone else. Even though I was secretly unhappy inside, I had no intention of changing.” But then, one of Thandiwe’s few friends told him that he had joined a small group that met to study the Bible. They had just finished their evangelism and discipleship training.
I wanted to read more
“My friend thought that I would enjoy reading one of the study booklets, so he gave it to me,” Thandiwe says. “As I read the booklet, my heart burned within me. I understood for the first time that I am a sinner, and that I was a stranger to righteousness. After I finished the booklet, I wanted to read more, to know more. Through His Word, God raised His hand, touched my life, and saved me. In Luke 19:8 Zacchaeus’ promises to change his life. That is me. I am just like Zacchaeus. This passage is so meaningful to me.”
God's plan
Now, Thandiwe cannot get enough Bible study. He enjoys our small group studies and Bible training—and the opportunities he has to grow in his faith while studying with other Christians. He is learning about God’s plan for his life. “I want to plant the seed of God’s Word according to Matthew 28:19-20 and win more people to Christ wherever I go,” he says. His commitment and passion for the Gospel are sure to inspire others to want to know the Lord. He is truly fulfilling the Great Commission.
