Born blind, but given spiritual sight
Another night with a tear-soaked pillow. Rashmi could feel and taste the salty remnants of her cries. She could even wipe the tears away, but she could never see them fall from her face. Born blind she felt she was cursed all her life.
Bound by superstitions and cultural traditions, her parents believed their daughter was a curse to them. They tried magic and witchcraft, but the rituals and offerings to seemingly powerful goddesses didn't work. Rashmi was still blind—both physically and spiritually.
Just when it seemed like all hope was gone, God allowed Rashmi to cross paths with a believer trained by Bible League International: Pastor Pathare. She often visits families and leads Bible studies with those open to hearing the Gospel.
Under A Curse
One day, Pastor Pathare visited with Rashmi. They slowly began to develop a rapport, and Pastor Pathare helped Rashmi deal with her feelings of rejection. She prayed with her and started talking with her about Jesus Christ. Intrigued, Rashmi wanted to hear more Good News. After all, for her entire life she believed she was under a curse.
“Though Rashmi was blind, she could understand the Bible study lessons and quickly learned Bible verses through hearing,” says our ministry contact. “When they came to the lesson about blind man Bartimeus, Rashmi burst into tears. She realized that Jesus could heal her completely.” In sharing the story of blind man Bartimeus, Pastor Pathare also emphasized the importance of inner healing and spiritual sight. With the seed of faith planted and watered by Pastor Pathare’s visits, Rashmi accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. She started attending a Bible study group and church regularly.
"I can see my future is safe..."
As more and more of the verses from the Bible soaked in, the Lord began to restore her spirit. Layers of hurt, rejection, and pain disappeared. Unconditional love and peace from of our heavenly Father filled her life. “I have no physical sight, but Jesus gave me spiritual sight,” says Rashmi. “I am glad that I am saved through Jesus Christ. Spiritually, I can see my future is safe in the hands of Jesus.”
