The ripple continues
More than a decade after the Soviet Union’s collapse,
Russians continue to suffer the consequences of a failed communistic
regime. With their economy still quite unstable, almost one
third of Russians live on what equates to one US dollar each
day.
What’s more, bitterness and distrust towards the government
have left many turning to faulty forms of comfort—millions
are gripped by addiction to alcohol and drugs. And widespread
promiscuity has led to a growing problem with AIDS.
Groping for answers
In the midst of such dire circumstances, Russians are continually
groping for answers. However, haunted by years of deceit,
they aren’t easily swayed by quick fixes.
Fortunately, God is patient. And God longs to build a relationship
with His beloved Russian children. One by one, hearts softened
by the Holy Spirit are opening to the love of Christ.
Light in the darkness
As more and more Russians receive the gift of salvation, there
is a growing need for evangelical churches.
The Bible League is helping to build the Church in Russia
by equipping national Christians to reach their own communities.
Through church planter training, Christians receive the Scriptures,
evangelistic tools, and training necessary to establish local
churches.
Since the Bible League began working in Russia, many communities—previously
unchurched—have now been touched with the presence of
a new evangelical church. And thousands of Russians have become
baptized members in a local church.
Support them through prayer
Though many great strides have been made, many more communities
still need to be reached with the hope of the Gospel. Pray
that the Bible League will continue to be able to provide
Scriptures, tools, and training for church planters. Pray
also that more Russian Christians will be filled with the
desire to establish churches in their communities.
