Bible Saves Marriage

Young Serbian Man saves marriage through studying the Bible. Miodrag, a young Serbian newly wed was consumed in a life of gambling and drinking. Miodrag’s friends encouraged him to ignore his role as husband and accompany them to places where he would drink and gamble away all of his and wife’s money for the week in one night. Miodrag’s wife loved him and wanted to save the marriage, but her hope was fading.

A glimmer of hope appeared when Miodrag’s sister, a Christian, moved to their village. She sought out her brother and ministered to him often. “Whenever she would visit us,” recalls Miodrag, "she would talk to us about God and His Word."

"In the beginning, I just humored her. I pretended to be interested but my mind was far away…usually thinking about gambling.  But after some time, I started to listen to what she was telling us. She would read us some verses from the Bible and explain the most important things we need to do to gain salvation.”

Still, it was a slow go. Miodrag continued his profligate ways. Dimitrije, a church planter trained by Bible League International, heard about the troubled couple and began to visit them. “I compelled Miodrag and his wife to sit with me and study the words of Jesus. I explained what the words meant, and it was then that we had a breakthrough. Miodrag began to read the Bible for himself and pray, and come to my church fellowship.”

Powerful Prayer

Miodrag remembers, “My brothers and sisters in Christ started to pray for me to make the decision to be baptized. God helped me to realize that I needed to make a commitment. I wanted to stop drinking and gambling, and I wanted to join His Church.

“After a few months, I was baptized in Novi Sad. That was the biggest decision in my life!

“God helped me to become a different person. I don’t drink, fight, or gamble anymore. I have a good marriage with my wife now, full of love and understanding. We read and study the Bible together, and we pray together. Our kids are growing with all our love and support.

“We are thankful to the people who provided God’s Word to us. We learn many things from the Bible and it helps us grow in faith and save the marriage.”
