"We're ready to provide Bibles"
Plans underway to get more scriptures to Haiti

CHICAGO, IL – Rosilio Roman, Senior Director of Latin America Ministries, confirms that Bible League International sustained no significant loss of scriptures in Haiti during the quake. Our Port-au-Prince and Jacmel offices, however, both sustained some damage.

“This is a blessing,” says Roman. “Right now, we are sharing scriptures we have with other ministries able to provide assistance in the devastated areas.” At the urgent request of U.S. Army chaplains ministering to Haitian earthquake victims transported to Puerto Rico, we were able to overnight 300 French language Bibles and Creole Bible study materials to San Juan from our Chicago warehouse.

Jean Bilda Robert, our Haiti National Director, reports that our ministry continues full-speed ahead in areas of his country untouched by the quake.

All of our Haiti staff members are alive and accounted for, but many lost family members and homes. Caring for our Haiti staff remains our top priority, but we also are already looking at logistics to determine when and how we can get more scriptures into Haiti.

“We are ready to provide the Bibles our ministry partners in Haiti need as they begin their ministries of restoration,” says Roman.

Approximately 700 of Port-au-Prince’s estimated 1,200 churches were destroyed and many pastors lost their lives. More than 100 church planters trained by Bible League International suffered the loss of a spouse or child.

Haitian by birth, Pierre Philippe, our National Director in the Dominican Republic, is assisting Bilda in ministering to staff and in communicating updates to Roman. Philippe, an ordained minister, is also providing pastoral care to Haitians hospitalized in the Dominican Republic.

“Pray that God will use Bible League International in Haiti as an instrument of blessing that helps the country’s spiritual restoration and heals hearts overwhelmed by this tragedy,” he says. “Pray, too, that as we place God’s Word, a new light will flood the lives of quake survivors and give them a better future in Jesus Christ.”

Bible League International staffs in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and the U.S. are providing humanitarian aid to their suffering Haitian co-workers.
