CHICAGO—While the world focuses on China as
it hosts the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Bible
League will continue in its efforts to focus on Chinese
believers living without God’s Word. This March,
Bible League will begin its four-month long radio campaign
entitled Don’t Make Them Wait— in
an effort to provide Bibles to those who so desperately
need and desire them.
With this year’s radio campaign, the ministry will encourage donors to
provide more than 87,000 Bibles to Christians in China. “There is a tremendous,
on-going need for Bibles in China. As the body of Christ continues to grow significantly,
God’s Word is needed to empower, encourage, and help believers to develop
spiritually,” says Mike Southworth, Bible League’s executive vice
president of ministry.
It’s estimated that in most rural areas in China there is only one Bible
for every 100 Christians. In addition to the short supply of Bibles, Christians
face continually tighter restrictions on religious activities. As the persecution
of the “underground” church movement continues, many of China’s
believers are forced to adapt and find new ways to worship, fellowship, and spread
the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Christian radio stations and networks across the country will once again partner
with Bible League in the campaign, including: American Family Radio (AFR), WAWZ
in New York, WRBS in Baltimore, WCSG in Grand Rapids, Mich., KWVE in Los Angeles,
and KGNW in Seattle. The radio campaign will begin March 1, 2008 and run through
June 30, 2008. Radio listeners can visit www.SendBiblesNow.com or call 1-800-YES-WORD
to make a single gift or a monthly commitment.
Last year’s radio campaign provided more than 220,000 Bibles to believers
in China. In 2007, Bible League provided more than 520,000 Bibles and New Testaments
to Chinese believers.
