CHICAGO-At a special breakfast last month during the National Religious Broadcasters convention in Anaheim, CA, Robert W. Cole, president of the Bible League, presented plaques to representatives of Salem Communications to honor a thriving 15-year partnership between the organizations.
"This partnership has been so successful because it makes sense," Cole said. "Salem has a passion to spread truth through their radio outlets, and to impact our culture with that truth. Bible League does the same thing internationally by spreading the truth of God's Word throughout the nations. Both organizations share this passion for truth among all people."
Since 1990, this shared passion has provided more than 1.9 million Bibles to Christians in areas such as Africa, China, and Southeast Asia. Salem's radio stations help by sending on-air personalities to witness Bible League's worldwide evangelism, discipleship, and church planting programs. They capture God's Word in action through interviews, celebrations, baptisms, and worship services, and share these with listeners across the country.
The most recent campaign kicked-off in last September, and focused on the Bible famine in Africa. Thanks to gifts from radio listeners, Salem stations provided nearly 230,000 Bibles to Africans who either don't have access to God's Word, or can't afford to buy their own copies. Now, hundreds of thousands of people in Africa will receive their own Bibles after completing Bible studies under the guidance of Bible League-trained workers.
"The Bible League understands the transforming power of the Word of God, and has kept that focus clear all this time," said Joe D. Davis, Salem's executive vice president and chief operating officer. "It also knows how to use radio, and listeners have responded with enthusiasm and generosity."
