Robert
W. Cole is the fourth President of the Bible League in its 68-year
history. Mr. Cole, an Australian citizen, was appointed by the
Board of Directors in July 2003.
Following a Bible delivery trip to China in October 1980,
Bob resigned from his profession as a Health and Building Surveyor
in local government and joined the ministry of Open Doors with
Brother Andrew in Sydney, Australia.
In June 1981 he was part of an international team that clandestinely
delivered Bibles to mainland China. Over the next six years
he continued to work as a Field Director to promote the ministry
of Open Doors throughout Australia. He also participated in
a number of Bible delivery trips to China, Vietnam, and Myanmar
(Burma).
Bob felt God’s call to prepare for
ministry overseas. In October 1988 he moved to Thailand with
his family to work in cross-cultural church planting and
literature ministry among the Burmese people in the capital,
Bangkok.
Apart from assisting in two successful
church plants, Bob worked to develop a variety of evangelistic
and Bible study resources for this people group. He assisted
the Bible League’s
project of editing and typesetting a Burmese Bible Dictionary,
out of print since 1952, as well as coordinating the development
of the first Burmese Study Bible.
In October 1994, Bob left Thailand to accept a full-time position
with the Bible League in Australia. In November 1997, he was
appointed National Director, and subsequently introduced an
aggressive development program which resulted in a doubling
of funds for ministry over a five-year period.
Bob most recently served as International Coordinator of the
International Association of Bible Leagues. He and his wife,
Janet, have three adult children who live in Australia.
Regarding the tremendous need for Scriptures
and evangelism and discipleship training worldwide, Bob comments, “As
much as ever, a hurting world is crying for answers they haven’t
found anywhere. I’m excited that the Bible League is
positioned to provide the answer, God’s Word.
He continues, “God has provided creativity and resources
to His people. I believe the great challenge we face is to
seek God’s heart, follow His leading, and say, ‘We
can make a difference together.’”
