Over 1,000 people gathered in Port-au-Prince on July 6 to celebrate the distribution of the Easy-to-Read™ Haitian Creole Translation of the Gospel of John. There was great excitement as Pastor Jean Bilda Robert, National Director of Bible League, Haiti, opened the dedication ceremony.
In a nation still recovering from the devastating earthquake in 2010, the words of Scripture bring strength and hope. Now, with John’s Gospel available in the Haitian Creole Translation, the everyday language spoken by nearly 7-million people throughout Haiti, it will be even easier to find encouragement from the Bible.
Mrs. Jose Jean-Baptise, trained as a Bible League International Project Philip evangelist, uses a French translation of the Gospel of John in Bible studies with a group of 70 seekers. When she introduced the Easy-to-Read Haitian Creole Translation, one seeker exclaimed “Why have you hidden this new version in Haitian Creole? It is so explicit that I do not need the Gospel of John in French. I prefer the Easy-to-Read Version in Creole. It increases my understanding of the Word of God.”
