in Colombia are finding freedom in Jesus.Colombia

A country besieged
Colombia is a country under spiritual siege. In the onslaught, Colombian Christians face murder, kidnapping, drugs, and lawlessness as daily threats. Congregations are held for ransom, pastors killed, and churches closed when their members can't pay bribes to the paramilitaries and guerrilla forces.

When there’s no escape from the corruption and chaos, there’s only one place where the people of Colombia can find hope and a future.

Behind bars
The Word of life now comes to the people of Colombia through the tireless efforts of workers trained by Bible League International who care enough to give them the key to lasting, unshakeable peace.

Unfortunately, traditional religious teachings keep many Colombians from knowing Jesus as their Savior. Heavy on superstition and light on Biblical truth, the cultural church keeps many in spiritual bondage. Only God's Word—through the power of the Spirit—can free them.

Bound by bitterness
One Colombian woman, Rosalba, tells what her life was like before the light of the Gospel transformed her. Her father was a violent alcoholic, and her mother was a prostitute who cared little for her children. Rosalba’s family bred a deep bitterness in her—a bitterness that began to eat away at her marriage, too.

“As for God,” she says, “He had no meaning for us, except as someone to curse for our miserable existence.”

But then her mother—dramatically transformed—led Rosalba to the Savior. “Jesus Christ has changed me. Gone is the bitterness and resentment. God’s love has dispelled the hate that once ruled my behavior. I attend a Bible study group that has enabled me to grow in my faith. How grateful I am to Bible League International for giving us these books and Bibles!”

Truth to set them free
God is working mightily in Colombia. Christians trained by Bible League International are now leading multitudes of people—like Rosalba, weary of being entrenched in hopelessness—in Bible studies, teaching them about the freedom and hope of the Gospel. And of the thousands of Colombians who have graduated from these studies, each one now holds his or her own precious copy of God’s Word—the only thing that has the power to set their captive hearts free.

The key
With the words of life in their hands and the seeds of understanding planted in their hearts, many Colombians are on the verge of breaking free from their captivity to sin and death. But our work is far from done here. Please be praying for the Spirit to unlock many hearts.

Please continue to pray for peace in Colombia and for its many victims of violence. Although efforts to bring about religious freedom are underway, Colombia is still recognized to be one of the most violent countries in the world. Pray, too, for leadership, funds, and continued protection for Bible League's Colombian staff.

“God had no meaning for us, except as someone to curse for our miserable existence...”
