Though the door was closed on Communism, its shadow still remainsRussia

Flash-in-the-pan evangelism
For many Christians, Russia is a reminder of one of the most spectacular miracles in modern history. Communism, which was dedicated to eliminating Christianity in Russia, collapsed with the Soviet Union in 1990-1991.

In the blink of an eye, the Christian world switched gears from simply praying for the lost souls of Russia, to actually reaching out and touching them. Missionaries, Bibles, and evangelistic tracts were sent en masse to propel nearly a decade of spiritual revival. According to Operation World, “the religious freedom of the 1991-1997 period was a time of euphoria, excitement, and interest created by disillusionment with the old system and its leaders.”

Unfortunately, many organizations were unprepared to deal with the deep scars left from years of tyranny. And today—as Russians try to sort through economic disparity, disappointment, and bitterness—few have remained to offer meaningful answers.

Outreach from within
The Bible League, however, utilizes a long-term approach in sharing the Gospel, and through it, Russians are equipped to share God’s Word with their friends and neighbors.

By intentionally linking evangelism and discipleship, the Bible League trains people to study the Bible and share it with others—implementing a proven model of ministry that is reaping results around the world. Of the many who have graduated from these studies, each one now holds his or her own precious copy of the Scriptures. Each graduate also has a basic understanding of the Message of life contained in its pages.

They need your prayers
Join us in thanking God for the healing He is bringing to the people of Russia. Pray that through the Bible League’s ministry in their country, more Russians will become intimate with the Bible and will experience the saving power of Jesus Christ.
