One torn page
Some time ago, I found—by chance—a page torn out
of a Bible. I read the torn page and it was about Joshua. I
became fascinated at what I was holding in my hands and was
puzzled as to what the rest of the story in the Bible was really
about.
A search for meaning
The more I read the Scriptures, the more I became puzzled as
to what it was about. A neighbor told me about a church in
the village that was teaching the Bible. I decided to go
see if I could get help. There, I met a Bible League-trained
teacher who was leading a Bible
study.
As the weeks passed, the answers came slowly about God and
Jesus. Through the combination of answering
study through a combination of reading the Bible and answering
study questions, I came to understand that Jesus died on a
cross because He loved me and wanted to save me from the penalty
of my sins. Seeing the truth of this, I invited Jesus to come
to me and save me!
Cool water for a thirsty man
The change was real. I could feel the changes taking place
inside of me—and people saw my happiness and peace.
I knew that God had changed me, because after I accepted
Jesus, I began to understand most of what the Bible was saying.
To me, it was as if I was a thirsty man—in a hot, dry
place—and I was given a large container of cool, sweet
water that I could not stop drinking!
After I was baptized, I wanted to use my Bible to tell others
about Jesus. When I was trained, I went to a village and began
evangelism—door to door. I gave a Bible League booklet
about the Bible to all who were interested. Now I lead a Bible
study, through which others can “earn” their own
Bibles, and already three in the group have accepted Jesus
as their Savior!
