The Lord is my shepherd. I will always have everything I need.
Psalm 23:1 ERV
So much of the work Max Kohanyuk has done over his lengthy career in service to others has its roots in the Word of God. He’s been a missionary, a translator for faith-based organizations, a leader in his church, and a biblical editor. Today he serves as Bible League International’s Senior Vice President of Church Relations and Engagement. He brings nearly a decade of experience in operations, project management, and financial analysis to growing God’s Church. But his family—his wife and three sons—gives him his greatest joy.
Max believes it is by acknowledging and appreciating our differences that we can create a better global community. He says, “We all have different life experiences. In fact, we are so incredibly unique in who we are and how we think. Communicating these experiences to each other and sharing in God’s Word makes a more cohesive society and better family of Christ.”
Having lived in Ukraine, Russia, and Texas, he’s been immersed in many different cultures. “I want to help God’s kingdom grow around the world. Throughout my life, God has instilled in me a desire to learn from His Word. He has been teaching me to partake of that wisdom and to always rejoice in His presence, even though my circumstances might make me believe otherwise. It’s why I want others to know about the abundant joy that Christ brings.”
Max has been an eyewitness to some of the most impoverished regions of the world. He explains, “When I was Bible League’s Executive Director for Latin America Ministry, I saw firsthand the hopelessness of the poor and downtrodden. As someone who also experienced that kind of life, I can easily identify with those who, during a storm, find solace in the arms of their Heavenly Father. That is my life’s goal: to tell people all over the world about Christ, just as some American missionaries had told me about Him several decades ago and, in the process, changed my life forever.”
Fluent in Russian, Ukrainian, English, and Spanish, Max puts his training in linguistics and pragmatics to good use. He explains, “For me, it was an incredible privilege to delve into the academic underpinnings of successful enterprise management, team-building, and leadership. Understanding these principles has been crucial for my growth both as a leader and as a believer.”
