Now 36, Eli is an inmate at the Winnebago County Jail in Rockford, Illinois. “I was drinking every night for years,” he confesses. “And the DUIs started coming.” His addiction to alcohol was so strong, he came to believe life was not worth living. “I was lost,” he admits. “And a brother here in the jail kept inviting me to come to Project Philip Bible studies. It was months before I said yes.”
Saying yes was the beginning of Eli’s changed life. “The Bible studies really surprised me—for the first time in a long time, I felt excited about something.” Eli prayed and fasted and knew that he was being transformed through the Word of God. “The Gospel has impacted me 100%! I used to get into fights and have panic attacks, but now I am connected to the Father,” he says quietly. Eli reveals that his life now has new meaning. “God showed me that I can be happy,” he beams. “I am sure I want to work in ministry in my future. God showed me I can do it!”
Eli not only wants to work in ministry, he is preparing to do so with the Bibles and training you provided. Soon after completing Project Philip Bible studies, he signed up for Church Planting Training, so he can use his training to share the Word of God in the inside—and outside—of prison.
