Accounting Generalist

Summary

The Accounting Generalist performs a variety of accounting duties involved in the maintenance and review of accounting and financial records requiring research and interpretation per Finance department policies and procedures. Must be proficient in the operation of the accounting ERP, and the expense reconciliation systems.

The Accounting Generalist maintains Accounts Payable vendor records, balances vendor statements, and reconciles various balance sheet accounts. This position works with Compliance to ensure vendor contracts are in order prior to sending payments, and that vetting has been completed for all overseas vendors.

The Accounting Generalist supports the Director of Accounting Operations to verify and troubleshoot various Finance reports, prepare journal entries, and input data into the accounting software as needed. This person is a full back up for Accounts Payables, and the Accounting Specialist, covering all duties of these positions as needed.

The Accounting Generalist serves as part of the Finance Team executing various standard posting, calculating, and verification duties to maintain accurate accounting records. This position maintains a high level of accountability and accuracy, as well as honoring internal processes, government, ECFA, and audit standards.

Duties

1. Plan, develop and implement strategic Finance plans for the ministry that result in an effective and efficient finance and funding approach to all our activities in alignment with ministry plans observing BLI’s mission, vision, and philosophies.

  • Verifying and troubleshooting various financial reports
  • Preparing journal entries
  • Input general data into the accounting ERP.

2. Accounts Payable Vendor Records

  • First line of communication with new vendors to obtain the necessary information, per Finance Department standards, to setup new vendors in a timely manner.
  • Maintain all vendor records
    • Address, telephone numbers, company contacts
    • ACH, USD, and foreign currency transfer instructions
    • Miscellaneous documentations such as W-9s, requests to change addresses or bank information, etc.
  • Yearly maintenance to vendor records
    • Verify existing ACH and wire instructions
    • Remove unused vendors, and inactivate vendors no longer in regular use.

3.  Vendor Contracts

  • Work with staff to ensure vendor contracts are in order prior to sending payments.
  • Work with Compliance to maintain current vendor contracts stored in the accounting ERP.

4. Balance vendor statements and work with Accounts Payable to resolve any issues.

5. Perform monthly reconciliation of accounts payable balance sheet accounts, research, and work with Accounts Payable to resolve any issues.

6. Serve as a full back for Accounts Payable and the Accounting Specialist covering vacations and extended absences as needed.

7. Perform other duties as requested.

Collaborates with: Finance Team, individuals at all levels of the organization, as well as auditors, vendors, and financial institutions

Qualifications

  1. Must be a Christian, having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Must also agree with our statement of faith and conduct his/herself in a Christ-like manner.
  2. Bachelor’s degree, or Associate Degree with 3-5 years relevant experience.
  3. Strong mathematical ability is required.
  4. Should possess excellent computer and organizational skills; must possess a solid knowledge of Word, Excel, and financial record management.
  5. Must be able to work well with others.
  6. Must be detail-oriented, a good communicator, and able to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  7. Experience with handling confidential matters.

Performance Evaluations

You will meet with your manager in alignment with our fiscal year to discuss accomplishments and priorities four times per fiscal year.
