In addition to working long hours, her family members led her to believe she had a demon. "I lived in the rainforest where people are still under very traditional, cultic beliefs," she explains. "My family worships idols and my parents thought anything wrong with you meant you had a demon. They took me to a witch doctor for my healing."
Once her daughter reached school age, Monique moved out of her small village to farm in another area. "There was a church in this new village, and the members were going door-to-door, inviting us to come," she says. "I went out of curiosity. It was the first time in my life I entered a church, prayed, or studied God's Word."
The pastor of the church invited her to be a part of a Project Philip Bible study. Monique has been very eager and motivated to complete all the lessons. "What I heard really touched me," she recalls. "Now I live in prayer, and I devote myself to serving God. I am so grateful for those who give to this ministry. I have become a new and different person, and I am willing to serve God for the rest of my life."
