Today's VerseNow may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. — II Thessalonians 2:16-17 NLT
DevotionAs a person that has been rescued by God the Father from Satan's kingdom of darkness and transferred into the Kingdom of His dear Son (Colossians 1:13), you're fulfilling the callings He has placed on your life. That is, you're out and about in the world doing all the good things God has called you to do. As a result, in every area of your life you're a light that shines and shows the way that people are supposed to live. (Matthew 5:14). Those around you that are still in darkness see your light and gravitate towards it. Some of them become lights themselves.
The light you shine, the witness you exhibit, has something behind it that fires it up and keeps it going strong. It's the eternal comfort and wonderful hope mentioned in our verse for today. You're not on your own. God the Father loves you. Thus, He has given you what you need to do the good things you need to do. He comforts you at every turn and in every situation. Better yet, the comfort He gives you is eternal in nature. It's not a one-time phenomenon that eventually dissipates. It will always be with you.
Even more, the light you shine, the witness you exhibit, is fired up by a wonderful hope. You know that all your good work will not be in vain. Indeed, it will be the concrete manifestation of your salvation. And your salvation is not just for the here and now, but also for the life to come. Every good thing you do will have positive here and now consequences and positive eternal consequences. Every good thing you do will yield positive here and now rewards and positive eternal rewards. (Colossians 3:24). Your life will always be fruitful and meaningful.
May Jesus Christ himself and God the Father, then, continue to comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. May they continue to keep you from coming apart at the seams every time something goes wrong. May they keep your life moving forward as a marvel of grace, as a marvel of grace even under pressure.
