Volunteers in Ministry
Jos Snoep - The President's Blog

Then I heard the Lord’s voice, saying, “Who can I send? Who will go for us?” So I said, “Here I am. Send me!”” Isaiah 6:8 ERV

How does God’s Word reach those in need—those who have never heard or even know they can hear, understand, and believe the Gospel? It doesn’t drop from the sky into an obscure barrio in Latin America, a remote mountainous village in eastern Europe, or dense and unreached rainforest of Madagascar. It doesn’t suddenly ring out in the dusty, crowded streets of Upper Egypt, the thousands of villages in northern India without God’s Word, or the sprawling and impersonal urban slums of every major city today.

God’s Word reaches those in need through volunteers—believers who hear God ask, “Who will go for us?” and respond eagerly, “Here I am, send me!”

“I cry when I think back on all the time I wasted worshipping my ancestors—it was a waste of my life,” Ndava says as tears well up in his eyes. This 38-year-old man lives in Xai-Xai today—a city in Mozambique’s Gaza Province. Once he was trapped in ancestor worship, but today he gives every spare moment to share the Gospel with others.

“It all changed for me when I was reached through a Project Philip Bible study. God sent a Philip to lead Bible studies in my village, and that’s when I heard about Jesus and accepted Him as my Lord and Savior,” Ndava says. “And after receiving Jesus I became a new person. I started telling others about my new life—telling my family that only Jesus Christ is Lord, and that only in Him will we find the solutions to all our problems. This is my job now.”

This happens every day—over and over again—throughout the world. When you give because God has blessed you, you equip believers with Bibles, biblical resources, and training to empower them as they serve, as they volunteer, to reach others in their communities. Every Philip (Project Philip Bible study leader), every church planter, and every Bible-based Literacy instructor you help train serve God as volunteers, bringing the gift of God’s Word to those who could never afford or have access to God’s Word.

And there’s another part to this story that is closer to home. When God calls out to us, “Who will go for us?” there are hundreds here who respond by volunteering their service to join God’s work. There are Bible League Volunteers serving to encourage and support the mission of providing the gift of God’s Word to others. And there are thousands of volunteers giving their time and energy in Bibles for Missions Thrift Centers in order to become part of what God is doing throughout the world. Each one, in their own way, shows their faith in Jesus Christ this way.

These volunteers join the tens of thousands of believers living in the world’s poorest, most neglected places who give their own lives to God’s question with this answer: “Here I am. Send me!”
