Tanzania PpcropMagdalena was stuck in a cycle of sin.

She was raised in a home in Tanzania that followed the traditions of her ancestors. She trusted sorcerers and witchcraft. She abused alcohol and committed sexual sins.

Her actions didn’t change when she got married. “It was very hard to stop sinning,” she says. “My character caused a disordered marriage. My husband was planning to divorce me and marry another lady. I missed peace in my marriage.”

Magdalena was tired of her abusive, toxic marriage and home life. She wanted better for herself, her husband, and their five children. She went to sorcerers for help, thinking they could soften her husband’s hateful heart toward her, but nothing changed. “They gave me instruments of sorcery to bewitch my husband to love me, but it was impossible,” she remembers.

In June 2021, local Christians were visiting the church in Magdalena’s community to bring Bibles and Project Philip Bible study materials. Magdalena’s neighbor encouraged her to go. “She touched my heart, and through her testimony, I realized that Jesus could help me too,” Magdalena says. “That Sunday, the pastor taught me how to pray, and I began to praise God and put my needs in Him.”

The next Sunday, she attended church again. As the pastor was praying, Magdalena went to the front of the church to pray and suddenly, she fell unconscious. When she woke up, she felt free and happy, sure that she was freed from demonic possession. “From that day, I was saved totally from every bondage of the devil,” she says.

She joined a Project Philip Bible study at the church and God’s Word changed her life entirely. “There is no one who can help me as Jesus did,” she says. “I will use my life to proclaim what Jesus has done for me. When temptations come, I will remain faithful to the Lord.”

Magdalena’s family has changed, too. Her husband also accepted Jesus and now they enjoy a peaceful, loving marriage. “My husband and I are so happy now,” she proclaims. “We are living in peace with our five children. He is no longer beating me, and there’s no quarreling anymore. I’m blessed.”

She is truly grateful for the supporters of Bible League who provided the Bibles and Bible study materials. “I thank God for His grace to those who are supporting people who are unable to buy Bibles,” she says. “There are so many people who love Jesus but are unable to buy God’s Word. I urge the donors to continue giving because there are so many people suffering like I was. My life is full of hope through Jesus whom I now know through the written Word.”
