The role of Communications Specialist is to gather, edit and disseminate information from all field related activities undertaken by the ministry partners of Bible League International within the Central America and Caribbean region. The information to be gathered will be in the form of, but not limited to, stories, testimonies, photographs, audio and video recordings and media releases. Such information is to be provided in a timely manner in order to meet Bible League International’s global development objectives and the specific needs of funding partners.

Duties

  1. Keep constant communication with partners across Central America and the Caribbean. Travel 3-4 times per year to visit designated partners and gather stories based on editorial calendar plans. Trips planned with direction from the Director of Storytelling.
  2. Assist in planning, developing, and execution of resource gathering trips in Central America and the Caribbean.
  3. Gather interviews, prayer points, photographs, audio recordings, and video clips from the field as required by the Director of Storytelling.
  4. Submit resources (prayers, interviews, testimonies, etc.) into Bible League’s Digital Asset Management System
  5. Submit weekly prayer requests of Central America and the Caribbean partners to BLI’s prayer team.
  6. Write and submit 4 Verse of the Day Submissions per month
  7. Stay abreast of campaigns or special emphases by funding partners and identify related activities for communication coverage.
  8. Provide real-time communications coverage (whenever possible) of natural disasters, political or religious events which have a direct impact upon BLI operations within applicable regions.
  9. By instruction of Director of Storytelling, complete miscellaneous projects for the Integrated Marketing team such as writing/editing.
  10. In consultation with partner field staff, assist in the coordination of visits from BLI staff, regional staff or funding partners.
  11. Ensure that all BLI staff are updated on security matters within the region.
  12. Provide copy/reports on countries, projects, and events from within the region.
  13. Assist the Regional Director for Latin America and the Sr. Director for the Americas & Partnerships Ops with other matters consistent with the role.
  14. Attend any international meetings required specific to the role.
  15. Performs additional duties as required.

 

Organizational Relationships

  • Reports to: Director of Storytelling
  • Collaborates with: Other Communications Specialists, BLI Advancement, Director of Digital Marketing, BLI Regional Directors, BLI Partners, and Funding Partners

 

Qualifications

  1. Must be a Christian, having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Must also agree with our statement of faith and conduct his/herself in a Christ-like manner.
  2. 3-5 years experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field required.
  3. Should have cross-cultural experience, be passionately committed to evangelism and have an appreciation for people and culture.
  4. Should possess administrative skills and have experience in the use of video and/or in photography.
  5. Should have an understanding of the essentials elements that make up a good testimony or story and have the capacity to provide stories, testimonies, videos and photographs to meet the needs of Advancement and the funding partners.
  6. Should have strong and effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  7. Be knowledgeable with an interest in and awareness of the present political, social and economic situation across Central America.
  8. Should be a goal-oriented self-starter who is comfortable working without supervision.
  9. Ability and willingness to travel extensively taking up to 4 trips annually, involving a total of 21-30 travel days per year.

Performance Evaluations

You will meet with your manager quarterly in alignment with our fiscal year to discuss your accomplishments and priorities.
