A Boy Abandoned
In the Kiamburi slums of Central Kenya where Brian lives, houses are made of corrugated iron sheets. He’s a lean 13-year-old boy. But because of what hunger’s done to his body, he could be mistaken for 9.
Not long ago, Brian was a thief himself, just to survive. While his father isn’t in the picture, his mother suffers from alcoholism, often disappearing for days at a time. Sometimes it’s worse when she’s home, because her anger spills over into violence.
Brian doesn’t just hunger for food, but for a loving home.
At just 13, he’s lived with so much anger. At his mom. At God. At a world that would let him and his brothers and sisters go hungry. When he should have been allowed to just be a boy, he’s had to be a man. With hunger gnawing at his stomach, he’s had to make tough decisions. Between the law and survival, right and wrong.
Despite what Brian’s been through, he gets up each morning and goes to school. He knows it may be his only lifeline.
While Brian’s mom doesn’t take the family to church, he began to ache for it. One day, he heard beautiful music coming from a nearby building.
That’s when he discovered Calvary Temple… and everything started to change.
