The National Director of South Africa provides Christ-centered, strategic, and operational leadership to Bible League International’s (BLI) ministry in South Africa. The role is accountable for national ministry vision, governance alignment, partner engagement, staff leadership, financial stewardship, and the faithful implementation of BLI programmes in alignment with global standards and the South African context.

Duties

  1. Spiritual & Strategic Leadership
    • Model Christ-like character, servant leadership, integrity, and prayerful dependence on God.
    • Safeguard alignment with BLI’s mission, vision, Statement of Faith, and core values.
    • Lead the development, execution, and review of national strategy in partnership with the Board and Regional Director.
    • Set clear ministry priorities, outcomes, and impact measures across all approved programmes.
    • Discern and pursue responsible ministry expansion opportunities within South Africa.
  2. Partnerships & Field Ministry
    • Build and steward strategic relationships with churches, denominations, schools, networks, and field partners.
    • Identify, evaluate, and develop new ministry partnerships and programme end-users.
    • Represent BLI nationally and internationally with credibility and clarity to partners, donors, and stakeholders.
    • Ensure contextualised, effective, and compliant implementation of BLI programmes.
    • Oversee project development, partner engagement, monitoring, and impact reporting.
  3. Programme & Resource Oversight
    • Serve as the national subject-matter lead for BLI programmes and training methodologies.
    • Ensure appropriate programme use, trainer development, and curriculum integrity.
    • Align material planning, requests, and translations with BLI global guidelines and strategy.
    • Oversee leadership pipelines for trainers and facilitators, including future Church Planting (CPT) initiatives where applicable.
  4. Operations, Finance & Human Resources
    • Ensure sound governance engagement and compliance with South African legal and statutory requirements.
    • Lead staff recruitment, development, performance management, and pastoral care.
    • Foster staff engagement, clear communication, wellbeing, accountability, and collaborative ways of working to achieve a healthy, engaged, and high-performing team culture.
    • Oversee volunteer strategy, selection, training, and evaluation.
    • Develop and manage national budgets in collaboration with the Board and the Regional Director.
    • Ensure financial integrity, internal controls, audits, payroll compliance, and asset stewardship.
  5. Reporting & Communication
    • Oversee and ensure accurate and timely ministry, financial, and impact reporting.
    • Ensure verified impact reporting in line with P2I and partner agreements.
    • Provide field stories, testimonies, visuals, and prayer updates in coordination with BLI Communications.
    • Maintain regular planning, review, and accountability rhythms with the Regional Director and Board.
  6. Fundraising and Sustainability
    • Develop and deliver a national fundraising and sustainability strategy, in collaboration with Bible League International’s Advancement team.
    • Build and steward a local donor base (individuals, churches, corporates, and foundations) and grow local funding streams to complement existing international support.
    • Ensure fundraising compliance, including SARS PBO and Section 18A requirements, and maintain appropriate donor documentation and controls.

Organizational Relationships

  • Reports to: South Africa Board
  • Functional collaboration: Regional Director, Bible League International
  • Leads: National staff, coordinators, trainers, and volunteers
  • Accountability: Local Board and approved partner governance structures

Qualifications

  1. Must be a Christian, having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Must also agree with our statement of faith and conduct his/herself in a Christ-like manner.
  2. Committed Christian in agreement with BLI’s Statement of Faith, demonstrating spiritual maturity and integrity.
  3. Proven senior leadership experience in Christian ministry, missions, or faith-based training environments.
  4. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent ministry and leadership experience.
  5. Strong understanding of the South African ministry and cultural landscape.
  6. Demonstrated competence in strategy execution, financial management, and people leadership.
  7. Strong communication, relational, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
  8. Organised, resilient, and able to manage complex and often competing priorities.
  9. Willingness and ability to travel nationally and occasionally internationally.

Standards of Performance

Performance will be evaluated by the South Africa Board, in consultation with the Regional Director, against agreed strategic, spiritual, operational, and governance outcomes. The Board will agree on specific annual goals and metrics with the National Director and use these to review performance annually.

  • The performance profile will form part of the recruitment process and provide an agreed foundation for performance conversations.
  • Goal setting may use a “Big 5” framework quarterly (five priority goals) to support focus, alignment, and accountability.
  • The Board will emphasise clarity on what success looks like in this role and the conditions under which the Board will consider the role to be successful (to be reflected in the Performance Profile).
