Fifteen-year-old Khalil never properly learned to read or write in Arabic. So when the teen’s church in Egypt began using Bible League’s Bible-based Literacy program, he had an opportunity to improve not only his education, but also his spiritual life.
He notes, “Before joining the Bible-based Literacy classes, I used to insult others and lie. However, in the class, I found the teacher encouraging us to come closer to God.” The teacher would begin each class with prayer and talking about the Bible.
Khalil explains, “I heard stories about God that I never heard before. When the teacher explained the Bible verse in Proverbs 6:6, ‘You lazy people, you should watch what the ants do and learn from them,’ I found myself praying to God to transform my life.” Through his prayers and the encouragement of his teacher, Khalil learned to let God control his actions and thoughts. He smiles, “My family can see the transformation happening in my life.”
Khalil’s teacher has urged the students to memorize Bible verses. One that has helped Khalil is Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my shepherd. I will always have everything I need.” Khalil continues to grow in his faith and is so grateful for how God’s Word is making a difference in his life. He says, “Every time I know Him more, I love Him more. Thank you for your efforts. Pray for me to grow in fear of God and to become a great preacher in the future.”
